Details of ADAC Breakdown for Brits.

Last year we were recommend to use ADAC the German Breakdown Club, the AA's Counterpart in Germany, on the Practical caravan Forum because we have an 8 metre long Caravan and we could not get any club or company in the UK to cover this with the car or less we signed up to the services  that the CC and the C&CC provided with a cost over £200.

After contacting ADAC and visiting their website we decided to sign up for their Partner-Plus Package for 79.50 Euros.  This package covers both my husband and I  driving any car, ours or anyone else's or as a passenger in someone's car all over Europe including the UK.

If you go to the website:-
http://www.adac.de/mitgliedschaft/adac_membership/default.aspx?Componentld=8403&SourcePageld=1
The application form does not have the facility to pay by credit card but if you contact either of the following people, they speak perfect English and will email you a form to fill in where you put your card details and either Fax or Post to them.  On the application form it says you can pay by Bank Transfer but German Banks have different sized Bank Codes to us and cannot accept this type of payment. If they could it would cost £20 to £25 anyway.

Contacts:-  Kathryn Wenzl or Christina Herbst at email:- service@gks.adac.de

If you ask them or isa.pfaffel@adac.de by email, she will forward ADAC Plus Membership List of Services in English.

The caravan is covered  under this package.  If the caravan breaks down or has a puncture, you will get service for the caravan.  You won't get a rental caravan.

Plus membership provides full costs for a recovery of your car and caravan back to your home town, if it cannot be repaired within three working days.

If you get a recovery of your car they pay the cost of passengers being repatriated.  They pay the train tickets first class or air tickets in economy class or a rental car for 7 days.

This cover Partner-Plus is excellent cover for the price which are both better than the UK Clubs.  This package is the only one that covers anyone with permanent residence outside of Germany.

Another point is that if the breakdown is relatively minor and does not involve the need to repatriate due to inablility to repair, the ADAC only covers costs up to 200 Euros for the repair or to tow to the nearest garage.
